FAQ for Out of Town Visitors

We love hosting guests from Austin, all over the U.S., and even Korea, Canada, and Central America when Carmen comes to town! If you are not an Elgin-area local, the information below is very helpful before your visit. If you’re looking for ideas of other things to do while you’re visiting, check out my local guidebook.

Where is the studio?

Our address is 28 N. Main Street, Elgin, Texas, 78621. PLEASE NOTE, this is a different location from Carmen and Moises’s workshops in 2022 and 2023.

We are located in a small, historic downtown district between Off the Rails ice cream shop and Lo-Fi Coffee House and Studio.

What should I bring?

If you’re semi-local (like, you’re driving here) and have a yoga mat and props you like to use (blocks/blanket/strap), please bring them! If you are flying and don’t want to travel with these items, we have mats and props available at the studio to borrow. It’s recommended that everyone come to class with socks and/or a small towel to be able to slide on (for yoga workshops).

If you are attending the YTT module, singing bowls, philosophy, and/or meditation workshops, please also bring a notebook and something to write with.

When can I arrive for class?

Because we have other classes happening at the studio besides these workshops, plan to arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled class.

If there is a class still in session before the workshop you are attending, please either come back when the class is scheduled to end or wait quietly outside. We do not have an interior lobby or waiting area. We are in an old historic building with very thin glass, and if there is a crowd congregated and chatting right outside, it is quite disruptive to the class that’s still in session.

Here are some places within short walking distance you can hang out if you arrive extra early: Lofi Coffee House, Off the Rails Ice Cream Shop, Chemn Cafe, Veterans Memorial Park, Elgin Public Library. There is also a Starbucks just a few minutes drive away.

Where can I park?

We are located in an historic small town downtown area—there is a good amount of free street parking throughout downtown, as well as free public parking lots within walking distance. Please see the images below for public parking lots near the studio.

Where I can eat nearby?

If you are staying for a whole day of workshops, and especially if you’re doing the TT module, I highly recommend bringing some of your own non-perishable food and snacks just in case! There is a grocery store, H-E-B, that is about 5 minutes from the studio where you can get snacks and groceries, as well as some prepared meals, like sushi, poke bowls, sandwiches, and more. We do not have space to store meals/food during the workshops unfortunately.

Small town Elgin has some restaurants, but they are not always quick and/or light enough to eat right before a yoga practice. That being said, there are a number of places within walking distance or a short drive—a quick search online will give you options, or ask some of our local students.

Here are a few of our favorites while you’re in town: Lofi Coffee House, Millie’s on Main, Off the Rails Ice Cream, Restaurant Guadalajara, Aviator Pizza, Pollos Asados El Norteno (food truck), Little Beijing, The Taco Stop (food truck), as well as several others. You can check out a larger range of food and activities in my local guidebook.

What amenities are available at the studio?

We DO have:

  • Mats, blocks, straps, blankets, bolsters, and other props to borrow free of charge

  • Mat cleaner

  • A sink where you can refill your water (the tap water is fine to drink!)

  • Bottled water available for purchase

We DO NOT have:

  • Showers

  • Towels available for rent or purchase

  • A refrigerator to store personal food or drinks during the workshops

  • A microwave to warm up your food/meals

  • The ability to reserve mats or props for individual students—loaner items are available first come, first serve

I’m coming from Austin for weekday evening classes, when should I leave?

Give yourself LOTS of time—rush hour traffic from Austin to Elgin will take you at least twice as long as it will outside of the after work commute. If possible, I’d recommend leaving well before rush hour, even if it means you arrive early and set up at a cafe/restaurant/park/library and remote work or read or something! You will be a lot less stressed out when it’s time for practice.

I’m coming from out of town, where should I stay?

Personally, I would stay in or near Elgin. Even if you really want to explore Austin while you’re here, you’ll probably have an easier time commuting into Austin during your free time than trying to get to Elgin in time for the workshops. You might also be tired after practice, and you’ll probably be happy not to have a long drive back to your accommodations! Having a rental car will give you much more freedom and open up your options, but it is not impossible to get ride shares to/from Elgin. If you’re coming from a bigger city, Lyft/Uber/etc. will not be as readily available in Elgin as you are probably used to. There are numerous Airbnb listings in and around Elgin and hotels within an easy driving distance of the studio. Some Airbnbs are within walking distance. Please do not plan to walk Highway 290 to get to the studio—it is an extremely busy highway and not a very safe plan. If you are opposed to renting a car and need to navigate 290, I recommend making friends with someone who you can carpool with ASAP!

What is the cancellation policy if I can no longer attend?

Cancellations on/before March 31st will receive a 100% refund. Cancellations in April will receive a 50% refund. Cancellations on/after May 1st are considered a no show and will not be refunded. If you need to cancel, you will need to contact me via phone, text, or email, Carmen and Moises cannot process cancellations.
